ORIGINS OF THE PROPERTY

Henry Lawson was a renowned Australian writer and poet, whose works captured the essence of life in the outback. One of his notable connections was with a small town called Eurunderee. Situated in New South Wales, Eurunderee served as Lawson's inspiration for many of his iconic pieces. It was within this quaint township that Lawson observed the struggles and triumphs of the working-class Australians, which fueled his literary imagination. Lawson's deep understanding of the ruggedness and remoteness of the Australian landscape was reflected in his gripping stories and vivid descriptions. Eurunderee undoubtedly left an indelible mark on Lawson's creative spirit, shaping his perception of rural life and cementing his place as one of Australia's most celebrated writers.

Situated in the heart of Eurunderee, where Henry Lawson spent some formative years, Wildwood Guesthouse stands as a reminder of the literary legacy left behind by this renowned poet and writer. Eurunderee itself serves as the backdrop to many of Lawson's works, reflecting the struggles, joys, and hardships of bush life. Sapling Gully, a nearby area, was once bustling with gold miners during the gold rush era, shaping the surrounding countryside and leaving behind tales of fortune and despair. Today, as guests explore the captivating wilderness surrounding Wildwood Guesthouse, they tread upon the ground that witnessed the birth of Lawson's romanticized visions of the outback and the shadowed hopes of those who once sought their fortune in gold.

Notwithstanding our trip to Sydney .... the World was encircled by the Mudgee Hills, with Eurunderee as a centre. Mudgee, the town, five miles away was inside the World: Sydney was somewhere on the edge of the World, or just behind. I used to describe Sydney as a place 170 miles from Eurunderee
— HENRY LAWSON
